When choosing a 5 days Arctic Winter package tour to Ilulissat, you get to experience what normally comes to mind, when talking about Greenland. You will have your base in Ilulissat Guesthouse with an amazing view of the Disko Bay, and from here you will do the different trips, many of them only possible during winter time. You are going to experience the Greenlandic culture at first hand in the area around the Icefiord.

EXTRA: If you just can’t sit still and just want to try it all, you can alway buy extra trips like: snow mobile trip, ice fishing or stay the night in an iglo on reindeer skins – We will love to help you out!

DAY TO DAY PROGRAM

Day 1: Copenhagen – Ilulissat – Introduction to Ilulissat and City walk
Departure from Copenhagen Airport to Ilulissat via Kangerlussuaq.
On arrival to Ilulissat you take a Taxi to Ilulissat Guesthouse, where you will have time to settle in.

The first thing on your program is to meet our local guide and get a 2 hour city walk. If you have any questions regarding your program in Ilulissat you can just ask the guide. You will do a walk around town and get to know the interesting history and the town where you will spend the next days. You will see the fishing harbor, the old colonial part of Ilulissat and town museum, which was also home of the famous polar explorer Knud Rasmussen.

Day 2: Sermermiut hike to UNESCO-site and Northern light snow shoe tour
Wake up to an extra ordinary view. You will go out on todays first trip a hike out t0 the icefjord and UNESCO. This trip will start from Ilulissat Guesthouse, where you’ll walk together to the UNESCO-site. Here we will walk through the Sermermiut valley and continue out to the ice fiord to enjoy the breathtaking view. Depending on the weather conditions, we will decide how long the trip will be.

After a nice hike to the ice fiord and the UNESCO-site, you can now relax in town during the afternoon or consider to add on a 2 hours dog tour (DKK 1.800 per person) ski-rental or scenic flight, depending on your wishes.

During the evening we will put on our snow shoes and go to the outback of the town, looking for northern lights. Hopefully we will be lucky, and see them dancing on the sky. The guide will lead the way and share greenlandic stories and tales with you along the way.

Day 3: Icefiord cruise and Sauna visit
During the day you will join the boat, while you slowly sail along the icebergs. At winter time this is an extraordinary experience. You will feel the Arctic nature up close as you enjoy the sun reflecting in the huge ice bergs just outside town, where the UNESCO area begins. A must for the photographer. Once again, remember to put on a lot of layers. It’s much more fun to be out on deck than inside the boat.

Returning back to your guesthouse, you are invited to join our wellness sauna with a panoramic view over the Disko Bay. We have towels, water and etheric oils ready for your for this little treat. You can also book the sauna on private basis DKK 1195,-

Day 4: Day at leisure
This day you have to yourself. Either you can buy those souvenirs for your friends and family, do a hike or visit the local museums. If you want to do ice fishing or try the snow mobiles then that’s also possible. Please let us know if you need help regarding extra trips.

If you haven’t had any Greenlandic food yet, then that might be something you would like to do on your last night in Ilulissat.
Remember to book a taxi for the airport tomorrow. Check-in should be done 60 minutes prior to departure.

Day 5: Flight back to Copenhagen
Morning departure from Ilulissat airport via Kangerlussuaq, arriving in Copenhagen in the evening.

ACCOMMODATION

Hotel Hvide Falk

One of our favourite hotels in Greenland. The hotel has a cosy Greenlandic atmosphere and is situated a few hundred meters away from the city centre as has a beautiful view over the Disko Bay. The hotel has in total 38 double rooms, all with showers, toilets, telephone, radio, tv and wireless internet. Beside the 38 rooms, the hotel also has an annex with three double rooms and one single room. The rooms in the annex all share bathroom facilities and toilet. In the annex you have a kitchen, living room and a nice balcony. Other than that, the hotel also has terraced houses very close to the sea, where there are apartments. The apartments have 1-2 rooms - all with a private balcony, a small kitchen, bathroom and toilet. The hotel has a small Thai restaurant and an ala carte-restaurant. Every Monday and Thursday in the summer time, they have a Greenlandic buffet - we recommend booking a table in advance, why the buffet is very popular. It’s possible to store your luggage in the reception

Polar Lodge

In Kangerlussuaq, you either stay in Polar Lodge or in Old Camp: Polar Lodge is only situated 100 meters from the airport, having 13 double rooms sharing 5 bathrooms and 8 toilets in the hallway. The rooms are spacious with two separate beds, and there is a small souvenir shop in the building, where you can also find eating and common room, where the breakfast will be served, and where guest free of charge can have a cup of tea or coffee during the day time. We think, it’s the best in Kangerlussuaq, even though you share bathroom facilities in the hallway.

Old Camp

In Kangerlussuaq you stay in either Polar Lodge or Old Camp Old Camp is situated two kilometres from the entrance to the airport in a beautiful area in between Mount Hassel and Søndre Stømfjord (the fiord) with a view over Lake Ferguson and the mountains. The hostel consists of four wooden constructed long houses with 37 rooms shared between the three houses. In the fourth house, you find the reception and a small kiosk. The double rooms are furnished with beds, a desk, a chair, a wardrobe and a clock-radio. You will find modern shower facilities and toilets in the hall way in every building and eating and common room with a tv, DVD player and a stereo. Breakfast is included.
