DAY TO DAY PROGRAM
Day 1, 10th October : Copenhagen-Kangerlussuaq, ice cap visit.
Morning flight from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq Greenland. Upon arrival you will meet our local representative who will take you to one of the two guesthouses, Old camp or Polar lodge. After check-in your first trip will start. You will in 4×4 wheel buses go toward the huge inland icecap, covering around 80% of Greenland. If weather permits, you will get to stand on the ice cap before returning back over the tundra with view to glaciers and hopefully see some wildlife as reindeer and Mosk ox as well.
Day 2, 11 October : Ilulissat- City walk
After breakfast you will continue north to the city of icebergs, Ilulissat. Upon arrival you will take a taxi to our cosy guesthouse, where you will stay for the next couple of days. Our guesthouse is located beautifully with the view of the Diskobay and ice fiord, and you will arrange self-catering during your stay. If you are more friends or family members travelling together we will do our best to accommodate you in a private house.
Your local host will welcome you and offer you a city tour around Ilulissat. Towels and linen are included in the stay. It will be possible to add-on a breakfast voucher to the next door Hotel Icefiord.
Day 3, 12 October : Ilulissat- Sermermiut hike & Northern light tour
After breakfast we will hike up and into the Sermemiut Valley, which probably will be one of the most beautiful hikes you will ever experience. It is not hard, it is not long, but the views over Kangia Icefjord is a sight to behold! The place is on the UNESCO list of world heritage sites, and it is here where you can experience with your own ice, the “emptying” of ice into the ocean from the Ice Cap. 10% of all ice coming from the ice cap, goes through this narrow straight. On our way to the fjord, we will come across very old Inuit settlements. Please be aware that there will be no sunlight by the end of December, so the tour will take place in twilight, but you will still be able to sense the icebergs from land.
We will have lunch in town on our own.
Later afternoon or early evening we will head of searching for Northern light. Your guide will tell you about the myths and histories, and give you insight in a life in darkness by the edge of the world.
Day 4, 13th October – Icefiord cruise and sauna visit
This morning it is time to go out on an Icefjord cruise to have a better look at the gigantic icebergs. At slow speed we will cruise through the waters littered with icebergs of all shapes and sizes. It gets cold at sea, so take extra warm cloth on. Use the multi-layer system, so you can adjust your body temperature.
Upon your return we will heat up the sauna for you to get the heat back in your body and enjoy some relaxing time from our panoramic sauna and enjoy the sunset from the guesthouse.
Day 5 & 6, 14th & 15th October : Ilulissat – free days
You will have two days on your own in Ilulissat. Spend a day at leisure. Do an individual hike to the UNESCO area or bring a book and relax in the guesthouse with the beautiful view. Remember we don´t have tv in our guesthouse, and shops might be close today. Internet however is accessible and can be bought on the spot.
Day 7, 16th October: Ilulissat – Kangerlussuaq – Copenhagen
Individual taxi transfer to the airport. Flight from Ilulissat to Kangerlussuaq and further on to Copenhagen with expected arrival at 20:00
