On this 8 days Ultimate Greenlandic trip, you will really get a sense of what it’s like to live in Greenland during winter time. You’ll have your base in Ilulissat, from where you will go on several fantastic adventures. Going by snow mobile along the shore and maybe also on the ice, if it’s safe, to the small settlement, Oqaatsut, where you will spend one night, get a guidet tour in the settlement, feed the snow sledge dogs and go on a 2 hours snow sledge trip before returning to Ilulissat the next day . You will go out sailing to the Ice Fiord seeing the huge icebergs up close, do a snow shoe hike in the UNESCO site with the amazing view of the Ice Fiord and try to sleep in an iglo. You will have excellent opportunities seeing the northern light, because of staying in areas, where there is no light to be seen from Ilulissat.

Departure from Reykjavik Airport at 11.50. Arrival at Ilulissat at 12.05 (local time).
Your transfer will be waiting for you in Ilulissat and drive you to your hotel “Hvide Falk”, which has a fantastic view over the Disko Bay. The first thing on your program is to meet our local guide and get a 2 hour city walk. If you have any questions regarding your program in Ilulissat you can just ask the guide. The first day in Ilulissat you will do a walk around town and get to know the interesting history and the town where you will spend the next days. You will see the fishing harbor, the old colonial part of Ilulissat and town museum, which was also home of the famous polar explorer Knud Rasmussen.
Day 2 – Ilulissat – Snow show hike and Ice Fiord Cruise (B/-/-)
Breakfast at Hotel Hvide Falk.
After breakfast we will bring out snow shoes and hike up to the Sermemiut Valley, which probably will be one of the most beautifull hikes you will ever experience. It is not hard, it is not long, but the views over Kangia Icefjord is a sight to behold! The place is on the UNESCO list of world heritage sites, and it is here where you can experience with your own ice, the “emptying” of ice into the ocean from the Ice Cap. 10% of all ice coming from the Ice Cap, goes through this narrow straight. On our way to the fjord, we will come across very old Inuit settlements.
In the afternoon, it is time to see the huge ice bergs from sea level. At slow speed we will cruise through the Disko Bay littered with icebergs of all shapes and sizes. It gets cold at sea, so take extra warm cloth on. Use the layer system, so you always can put on or take off another layer of cloth.
Day 3 – Ilulissat – Oqaatsut: Dogsledge and settlement experience (B/L/D)
Breakfast at Hotel Hvide Falk.
Today you’ll go on a snowmobile to Oqaatsut settlement just north of Ilulissat, where you can explore this charming little place of Greenland where most still live the traditional hunters life. The place was originally named “Rodebay” by Dutch whalers that caught whales in this area, and the blood from the whales made the waters in the bay turn red – hence the name Rodebay or ‘Red Bay’.
You will sleep at a B&B and when arriving you will get a guidet tour around the settlement. Before going out on a 2 hours sledge dog trip, you will get to feed the dogs – you will love it!
Extra trip in Oqaatsut – Kangerluneq: Do a ski-pulka trip to a hut, where you stay the night 3250 DKK. Food and equipment is included.
Extra trip: Go out on an ice fishing trip. 575 kr
Day 4 – Oqaatsut – Ilulissat (B/-/-)
Today you will go back to Ilulissat by snow mobile. If the ice is safe enough, you might drive on the sea ice on your way back.
When back in Ilulissat you have the rest of your day to yourself, where you can relax or go to one of the museums or art handy crafts shops.
Day 5 – Ilulissat own excursions (B/-/-)
You have the day to yourself. We can recommend you to stop by the Art Museum and Ilulissat Museum. One ticket gives you access to both museums. You can also do another hike – maybe the yellow route. It takes about 1-1,5 hour and have beautiful sceneries of the Ice Fiord. Or maybe this is the day, where you manage all your souvenirs shopping – your friends and family will be happy to get a piece of Greenland.
Day 6 – Iglo Lodge (B/L/D)
Breakfast at Hotel Hvide Falk.
Today it is time for another high light of your trip. You are going to stay the night in an iglo
The trip starts after breakfast, when you go on a snow mobile out through the winter landscape til the Iglo Lodge. The trip takes around 1,5 hour and after arriving, you will be greeted with hot coffee and refreshments. There are in total 5 iglos with space enough for 2 persons in each iglo . In the coldest winters, the temperatures can get down to -4o degrees celcius, but inside the iglo the temperature is normally around 0 degrees celcius. You will get warm sleeping bags and information on how to keep warm. If you during the night thinks it’s too cold for you, you can always go inside the nearby hut.
The afternoon program includes a snow shoe hike and another trip on the snow mobile to a beautiful view point over the Ice Fiord of Ilulissat. When back in the hut, you will have dinner, before you hopefully will see the northern light. If you get to see the northern light, you are in the right spot – it’s pitch black out here with no light to be seen from Ilulissat – an experience you will never forget.
Including in this trip is warm clothing, which you will get the day before departing.
Day 7 – Iglo Lodge – Ilulissat (B/-/-)
We will wake up in our own iglos and slowly everybody will get up and get breakfast before getting ready to return to Ilulissat by snow mobile.
Back in Ilulissat you will check in at Hotel Hvide Falk again for the last night. You have no program this afternoon. You have time to relax or just enjoy Ilulissat on your own.
This last day you can celebrate the end of your Greenland Adventure in one of the very nice restaurants in Ilulissat
