There is enough time today to either just hang about town or choose an additional daytrip. See below for optional day trips.

In the evening we recommend at restaurant Roklubben (Rowing Club) which are beautiful situated at the shore of Lake Ferguson. Very nice dinner, and a very good place to experience northern light on a clear night.

If weather and conditions permits, we will arrive to the ice cap 660 meter above sea level and do a walk on the ice. We will have a beautiful view over the ice cap which is more than 3 km thick at the summit!

Again, we recommend dinner at the old rowing club.

Day 3 – Thursday: Guided city walk in Ilulissat
Breakfast at Old Camp. Around noon you will fly north for about 45 minutes before landing in Ilulissat (‘Ilulissat’ means means ‘icebergs’ in greenlandic – and for a reason!). When you approach Ilulissat by air you will see the gigantic icebergs as long as you can see.

Your transfer will be waiting for you in Ilulissat and when you have arrived in Hotel Hvide Falk, which will be your home during your stay in Ilulissat. You will be met by our local guide for welcome and brief for the next days.

The first day in Ilulissat you will do a walk of the town and get to know the interesting history and the town where you will spend the next days. You will see the fishing harbor, the old colonial part of Ilulissat, town museum which was also home of the famous polar explorer Knud Rasmussen.

This hike might be the most beautiful hike, you will ever do! It is not hard, it is not long, but the views over Kangia Icefjord is a sight to behold! Here you can also experience remains of old Inuit cultures, but the biggest attraction is the amazing view to the Icefjord, were 10% of of all ice coming from the Ice Cap, goes through this narrow straight. The view is breathtaking!

In the afternoon you will go on a boat tour to the ice fiord where you see the ice bergs from a very close but safe distance. During the summer time the glacier Kangia can move up to 50 meters a day!

Day 5 – Saturday: Dog sledge with local hunter

You will travel into the back country of Ilulissat and experience the true power and beauty of the arctic. We will follow the dog trail north east to Kangersuneq where we will meet the sea ice and experience local hunters fishing on the ice. After this stop we will continue to the bottom of the fjord where we will sleep in a simple cabin for the night. The cabin will soon be nice and warm and we will prepare the dinner. Outside you can enjoy the beautiful polar night and if the sky is clear the north light!

Please note, that the snow and ice conditions can alter the routes. Cancellations are very rare, however sometimes we need to change routes in order to meet the the present weather situation.

Day 6 – Sunday: Dog sledge with local hunter
After breakfast we will continue our journey among icebergs on the frozen fjord. If the weather and ice allows, we’ll go closer to the Inland Ice. Afterwards, we will head back to civilisation in Ilulissat, and is the snow and ice conditions are OK, we might make a short stop for lunch in a small Greenlandic settlement, where only 40 people live isolated from the rest of the world. You will arrive in Ilulissat in the afternoon and enjoy a nice warm shower and bed.
