Day to day itinerary:

Day 1: Reykjavik – Ilulissat – Introduction to Ilulissat and City walk – 2 hours

Departure from Reykjavik Airport at 11.50. Arrival at Ilulissat at 12.05 (local time)

On arrival to Ilulissat you take a Taxi to Ilulissat Guesthouse, where you will have time to settle in.

The first thing on your program is to meet our local guide and get a 2 hour city walk. If you have any questions regarding your program in Ilulissat you can just ask the guide. You will do a walk around town and get to know the interesting history and the town where you will spend the next days. You will see the fishing harbor, the old colonial part of Ilulissat and town museum, which was also home of the famous polar explorer Knud Rasmussen.

Day 2: Ice Fiord Cruise and a hike to the UNESCO site

After having a breakfast with an extra ordinary view, you will go out on todays first trip – the UNESCO hike. This trip will start from Ilulissat Guesthouse. You’ll  walk together to the UNESCO site. Here we will walk through the Sermermiut valley and continue out to the Ice Fiord to enjoy the breathtaking view over the Ice Fiord. Depending on the weather conditions, we will decide how long the trip will be.

After a nice hike to the Ice Fiord and the UNESCO site, you can now relax on the boat, while you slowly sail along the Ice Fiord. At winter time this is an extraordinary experience. You will feel the Arctic nature up close as you enjoy the sun reflecting in the huge ice bergs just outside town, where the UNESCO area begins. A must for the photographer. Once again, remember to put on a lot of layers . It’s much more fun to be out on deck than inside.

Day 3: Dog sledge trip and Northern light snow shoe hike

One of the first things, which probably comes to mind when thinking about Greenland, is the dog sledge. The dog sledge has been used for hunting and transportation for the last 2000 years and is a very proud tradition. Something you will not miss out for the world, when visiting Greenland. So, lucky you!

Which  route we will choose the specifik day depends on the weather conditions. We either head north of Ilulissat and drive along the shore and maybe, if its safe, drive out on the sea ice. Another option will be to go in to the back country of Ilulissat, where you will have the view of the Ice Fiord.

This evening will start from Ilulissat Guesthouse, where our guide will give you an introduction to the snow shoes and the route.  Remember to do the settings on your camera before going out on this trip and bring extra batteries for your camera. NOTE: We will try to schedule this trip to a night, where the possibilities for seeing Northern Lights are the best.

Day 4:  Day at leisure

This day you have to yourself. Either you can buy those souvenirs for your friends and family, do a hike or visit the local museums. If you want to do ice fishing, try the snow mobiles or stay the night in an iglo then that’s also possible. Please let us know if you need help regarding extra trips.

If you haven’t had any Greenlandic food yet, then that might be something you would like to do on your last night in Ilulissat.

Remember to book a taxi for the airport tomorrow. If you book pick-up at 11.20am, then you’ll have enough time to do the check-in.
