In wintertime, East Greenland turns into a white winter world where snow-covered mountains and frozen fjords set their mark on the landscape. These fascinating surroundings are the destination of this winter tour. Here we will visit the island of Ammassalik, and the town of Tasiilaq is our first destination. To get a better insight into what the arctic really feels like and the Inuit way of life we will go on a 2 day dog sledge tour to the small settlement of Tiniteqilaaq where you will get a real insight into how the locals live. We will stay in the settlement and have our dinner at the house of a local family. Returning from the dog sledge adventure you have a day for an optional snowshoe tour to the valley of flowers, use the time to visit the town of Tasiilaq and its museums or other activities.

Day to day itinerary:
Day 1: Reykjavik – Kulusuk + helicopter to Tasiilaq (East Greennland)
This trips begins in Reykjavik. Around noon you’ll depart from Reykjavik Domestic Airport, which is located just outside Reykjavik (not to be mistaken with the more distant Keflavik airport). From Reykjavik you will be flying with Air Iceland across the sea between Iceland and Greenland, called ”Danmarksstrædet”. Flight time is approximately 2 hours on a flight that is without doubt the most spectacular inflight in all of Greenland. You will have the view of sharply pointed mountains, pack ice, icebergs and clear visibility in the arctic air. Slowly the colourful houses will appear in the horizon – all among the wilderness!
Kulusuk International Airport is a very small airport, just a few kilometers from the Kulusuk settlement. Here you will continue in a helicopter to the Tasiilaq – East Greenland’s largest town. In Tasiilaq you will be staying in a small guesthouse. Following your arrival there will be a welcome briefing about your stay here. Supper in the house for all guests. A local chef will come and cook.
Day 2: Dog sled adventure to local hunters hut
Today we head out for our dog sledging adventure. Departure up through Ammasalik island to the ‘Coffee Bar’, the name is due to this being the location, where everyone stops for coffee break as it is in the middle of the island.
After the break we turn towards the Sermilik fjord, we crawl to 500 meters to the top of the mountain, which leads us down through a river bed. The view on the trip is fantastic, you can see the ice fjord and the ice sheet in the horizon.
Down the mountain we go until we come to a valley. Here we turn up a mountain into another valley, which leads us all the way down to the fjord. At the edge of the fjord, we will find the hut, in which we will spend the night. The view is spectacular with icebergs frosen into the ice.If you wish, we can walk up the mountain on snowshoes to get a 360 degrees view of the entire area.
In the evening we will have a solid supper.
Day 3: Dog sled back to Tasiilaq
Breakfast in the hut before we head back to Tasiilaq, over the glaciers and snowfields of Ammassalik Island. Arrival in Tasiilaq in the late afternoon. Evening free. Night in Tasiilaq.
Day 4: Snowscooter to Tinit settlement
We meet at the office and walk down to the fjord, where the snow scooter waits. We will drive to Tinit, the nearest settlement to Tasiilaq with only 120 inhabitants, who more or less survive on hunting. On the trip we will stop at a number of places with a view and we will drive over the Tinit Glacier. It is a fantastic trip, which shows another part of Ammassalik than the sledging trip.
In the evening there will be a farewell dinner for all participants.
Night in Tasiilaq.
Day 5: Tasiilaq- Kulusuk-Reykjavik
After saying our goodbyes to wonderful Greenland we go to the heliport for the short helicoptor lift to Kulusuk. From here we get on our flight back to Reykjavik, where the tour ends at the airport.
