It is said that the real Greenland is found in East Greenland. The question is however, how you would define “the real Greenland”? Is it the indigenous culture? Is it the drum dancing? Is it the nature? The ice covered mountains?
In East Greenland cultural traditions like e.g. drum dancing, fishing and dog sledding are maintained. All in the pristine and awe inspiring surroundings with steep mountain sides, deep blue fjords and of course snow covered mountains. In addition East Greenland is a neighbour to Iceland, land of the sagas – a fact that makes it obvious to combine these two beautiful destinations in this East Greenland and Iceland tour.

Following your arrival in Keflavik you will be transported with transfer service to Reykjavik. On your way there a leisurely break at the famous “Blue Lagoon” is possible. This place is a natural hot spring with water temperature between 37-39 degrees Celcius, perfect for a relaxing experience with additional healing effects on skin and muscle tensions. The lagoon is surrounded by volcanic stones, which adds to the atmosphere of being in a natural spa environment created by the forces of nature. So remember your swimming costume!
It is up to you how long you want to spend in the Blue Lagoon as there are several transfer busses departing to Reykjavik from here.
In Reykjavik you will arrive to the hotel, Fosshotel Baron or Baron Fron where you will be spending the next 2 nights. Both are situated in the centre of Reykjavik.
Day 2: Reykjavik & possibilities for additional excursions / B
Breakfast at the hotel. You have the full day at your disposal to explore Reykjavik, or we can recommend you some of our many options for excursion out of Reykjavik. Possibilitites are many – from the classical “Golden Circle tour”, to hiking trips, snorkelling above the continental plate divide or perhaps riding on the indigenous icelandic horses. Contact us for additional options for excursions in Iceland.
Day 3: Reykjavik-Kulusuk (East Greennland) / B
Breakfast at the hotel. You need to get to Reykjavik Domestic Airport, which is located just outside Reykjavik (not to be mistaken with the more distant Keflavik airport). From Reykjavik you will be flying with Air Iceland across the sea between Iceland and Greenland, called ”Danmarksstrædet”. Flight time is approximately 2 hours on a flight that is without doubt the most spectacular inflight in all of Greenland. You will have the view of sharply pointed mountains, pack ice, icebergs and clear visibility in the arctic air. Slowly the colourful houses will appear in the horizon – all among the wilderness!
Kulusuk International Airport is a very small airport, just a few kilometers from the Kulusuk settlement. In Kulusuk you will be picked up by our boat with all your luggage to head for Tasiilaq. This is were your Greenland adventure starts. On our boat trip we will go to the Apusiaq Glacier where we will enjoy coffee and tea in the splendid surroundings. When everyone has been taking their pictures of the glacier, the trip will continue towards Tunut and Umivik before we arrive in Tasiilaq. We might be fortunate to spot whales; humpback, minke or fin whales.
Altogether the trip to Tasiilaq is around 3 hours depending on the weather conditions. In Tasiilaq you will be staying in a small guesthouse. Following your arrival there will be a welcome briefing about your stay here the following days and the possibilities for buying additional excursions.
Day 4: Tasiilaq – city tour and Valley of the flowers
You will awake with the beautiful view of the fjord and icebergs slowly sliding through the sea. Tasiilaq town (formerly known as Ammassalik) is the largest town in East Greenland and holds ca 1900 inhabitants. It holds everything a town needs like, school, hospital, shops and much more – all in the most stunning surroundings. This is a place offering excellent conditions for total relaxation and that activates your senses; listen, look and taste this “original sense of Greenland”. An area very remote from the rest of the busy modern world.
Today you will be going on a city tour introducing you to Tasiilaq. We will be visiting the local workshop where the artists of Tasiilaq are selling their arts. We will continue on past the post office and down to the harbour past the old church dating back to 1903. The citytour lasts approximately 2-3 hours and our guides will present you with a nice overview of the development the town has been through, from the “good old days” to the way life is lived today.
In the afternoon we will walk with you through the “Valley of flowers” that has been shaped through time by a glacier. Today there is a river running through the valley with the many pretty flowers. We will also visit a lake and a waterfall in this beautiful setting. The trip will last approximately 2-3 hours.
Day 5: Icefjord and visit at the settlement Tiniteqilaaq
We will start our boat trip from Tasiilaq harbour at 9.00 in the morning. Sailing through the picturesque fjords with icebergs and stunning views we will arrive at the settlement Tiniteqilaaq after 2 hours. About 125 inhabitants lives here and are primarily working as hunters and fishermen. Tiniteqilaaq has the most beautiful location at the icefjord Sermilik and with the view of the Greenland ice cap.
During our visit in Tiniteqilaaq we have arranged a small sightseeing where you will be experiencing a typical Greenland settlement. Following our stop here we will be sailing among icebergs through the icefjord and make another stop at a deserted winter settlement. Here we will be enjoying a meal with the view of the ice masses before we are sailing back to Tasiilaq with estimated arrival time around 17.00.
Day 6: Tasiilaq
This is the final day in Tasiilaq, which is on your own disposal. You can choose to explore the area at your own pace and curiosity or you can choose to book some of our additional excursions.
One of our most popular day trip is for the Knud Rasmussen Glacier and Ikateq. Tour itenary:

Our first stop is the former American base Ikateq base that was active between 1942 og 1948. There are still clear evidence of the base and you can see the preserved runway, old trucks and other remained stuff. The next stop will be the Knud Rasmussen glacier where we will stay and have lunch enjoying the impressive view og the glacier. There is also enough time to go for a hike in the area. Expected time back in Tasiilaq is around 17.00 (price per person € 200).
